Update, June 3, 2018:
Iggy is now in sanctuary care.
Iggy's latest ultrasound showed that his heart condition has advanced considerably in the last 6 months and his prognosis is poor.
He is now a candidate for sanctuary care in our program, where he will remain in his loving foster home for the remainder of his life.

Quick Adoption Overview
Special precautions need to be taken around treating infections, anaesthetics risk, watching for exercise intolerance, heat intolerance, etc. And of course, the greatest challenge to raising a heart pup is preparing for the emotional journey of loving a pup who may not live a long life. We are hoping to find a wonderful loving home where Iggy can live his life, however long it may be, with great happiness.
Due to Iggy's health condition, we have waived our typical adoption fee. We ask instead for a donation of his adopter's choice.
- DOB September 24, 2017
- Diagnosed with Moderate-Severe Subaortic Stenosis
- Iggy is located in Bancroft, ON - we will consider applications from families within a 1-day drive (ideally under 5 hours, but will consider up to 8 hours).
- Homes where Iggy will be left more than 4 hours total in a day will not be considered
- Preference given to homes without children under the age of 8
- Iggy is suited to a home with another dog for him to play with
- Fenced yard required, no exception

All About Iggy
Iggy's mom Carlie was surrendered to our program when she was several weeks pregnant. Iggy and his littermates were born in our care and raised in a loving foster home. Visit this page to learn all about the whole litter and the enriched environment Iggy was raised in, and to see weekly photos of Iggy during the first 10 weeks of his life before he moved to his current foster home.

Iggy is a social, fun loving boy who LOVES to be around people, and is an expert snuggler! He is quick to learn and very motivated to please. Iggy is learning his basic commands, has nice leash manners, is crate trained and house-trained. What a smart boy!

Iggy is a soft tempered boy who is sweet and sensitive and gentle as can be. He is a total love who wants no trouble, is quiet and well mannered, and very intelligent. He is a typical gentle giant and will make the right family a wonderful companion.
He plays nicely with other dogs and loves to wrestle and romp around. He happily shares his toys (even his favourite stuffed skunk!) and enjoys having many playmates. He lives with 4 other dogs and has many other canine pals visit for playdates regularly. Iggy loves to curl up with his housemates for a good snuggle after a play session and always wants to be near his foster brothers.
He is looking for a home where he will have another well-mannered dog to play with. We are not considering homes where he will be the only dog.

Iggy enjoys casual walks through the woods, snout wars with his brothers, wrestling matches, and general puppy mischief. He's a country bumpkin who loves to spend time outdoors with his foster family. A typical pup, he has lots of energy to burn but once properly exercised he is happy to chill out and relax. His heart condition is not slowing him down and he loves to run around in the woods and explore all of the sights and smells on his daily hikes.
Once warmer weather arrives greater care will need to be taken to ensure Iggy does not overheat.

Health concerns
Sadly, Iggy has been diagnosed with Moderate-Severe SAS (LVOT 4.70 m/s, 88.3 mmHg)

SAS is a genetic defect of the heart. With this disease there is no way to tell how long Iggy will live - could be weeks, months or years. Some dogs lead long, happy lives, others die suddenly quite young. The median life expectancy with medication is about 5 yrs. He is available for adoption to special adopters who are willing to open their hearts to a dog who has SAS.

Adopters need to be prepared for the costs associated with this disease, which will increase with time as Iggy grows. He is taking Atenolol (a beta blocker) which will hopefully help reduce the potential clinical signs of SAS. These meds are dosed by weight and will cost approximately $50/month when fully grown. Additional meds may be required down the road, with costs varying but potentially running up to $300/month. He will also require echocardiograms and Cardiologist consults every 6 months to start with but these appointments could be more frequent as the disease progresses.
