All about Sadie
This lovely young gal is a new arrival in our program and is getting settled into her foster home.  She is friendly and social, gets along well with other dogs and is cute as can be!

Sadie came to us when her owners found that her exercise and training needs were more than they could handle.  Sadie knows some basic commands, but needs to work on her leash manners, keeping all four feet on the floor when greeting people, and general manners.  With a bit of work, and loads of opportunities to play and exercise, Sadie will blossom into a wonderful gal!

Sadie shares a foster home with other dogs and is playful and gets along well with everyone.  She would be happy to join a home with another friendly and gentle canine playmate to romp and play with.

Sadie is currently being treated for an infection in her foot/leg due to a cut on her foot.  If all heals up nicely we are planning to spay her on July 6th.  She will be ready to join her adoptive family once she has healed from surgery, approximately 2 weeks post-op.

An adoption donation of $500 will apply.

To be considered for adopting a dog through Newf Friends please submit a completed application, which can be found on the CONTACT US/FORMS page. Before completing an application or emailing us with questions, please review our FAQ page.  As outlined on our FAQ page, applicants who do not meet our adoption requirements (ie. no fenced play area, living in an apartment building, having young children, etc.) will not be considered -- please do not email us asking us to make an exception.

All about Miya
This adorable love bug is sweet as can be, friendly and social.  She has nice house manners and enjoys the comforts of home.  She loves to be petted and adored, knows some basic commands, and is a mellow, gentle companion.

Miya gets along with well mannered large dogs and is currently living with a male lab in her foster home.   We are told she prefers the company of males, and we have not tested her with any females.  She does not seem to enjoy the company of small dogs, particularity those who are yappy or in her face.  She'd probably be thrilled to be an only dog, or join a family with a mellow older male who won't pester her.

This cutie is best suited to an adult only home.  She does not enjoy spending time with children and prefers a calm, quiet household.  She'd be a great match for a mature owner who wants a quiet companion.

Miya, along with her brother Chevy, arrived in our care after the death of their owner.

Miya is undergoing treatment for Immune-Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP) and responding very well to her medication.  Her follow-up bloodwork shows that she is doing great and we have now lifted her medical hold.

She will stay on steroids for several months, with routine bloodwork done regularly to ensure that her platelet count remains stable as she is slowly weaned off the medication.
She is spayed and current on vaccines.  Maya has an old knee injury that has been left untreated and can no longer be repaired, so pain meds and joint supplements, along with some weight loss and muscle building, will go a long way for Miya.  A home without a lot of stairs will be best for her.

Miya is available for adoption to the right family -- once adopted Newf Friends will continue to cover the cost of her bloodwork until she has been weaned off her ITP meds or is stabilized at a low maintenance dose.

Our usual adoption donation will be waived.

Chevy

 Chevy
2017-011

July 14, 2017 Chevy was adopted!

Quick Adoption Overview

All about Chevy

Chevy is a big teddy bear who loves attention,  has loads of love to give, and is friendly as can be. This handsome fella gets along with everyone he meets and is a mellow, quiet sweetheart who is looking for someone to give him loads of TLC.

Chevy, along with his sister Miya, came to us when their owner passed away.   This sweet guy was in pretty rough shape but is starting to feel better.  Unfortunately we were not able to save his coat and he had to be shaved due to severe matting.

Chevy is looking for a home where he will not need to climb many stairs since he has mobility issues.  At the moment Chevy is obese, which is making his orthopedic issues far worse than they would otherwise be.  Currently tipping the scales at 186 lbs, he is in need of some serious weight loss.  His extra weight, in addition to a previously untreated knee injury, arthritis, and lack of muscle are making it difficult for Chevy to get around.  With his knee injury being left untreated for so long, he is not a candidate for surgery to correct it.  With pain meds he is feeling better, but is still slow to get around which is making weight loss a challenge.   We have added some new meds to see if we can get him feeling loads better so he can work harder on his exercise.   Chevy will require pain meds for the rest of his life to ensure that he is comfortable.

Chevy loves people, likes to cuddle and get belly rubs, and is a total love bug.  Given his ortho needs, and sensitivity to having his sore knees touched, he is better suited to a home without young children.

Hey you, get pettin'
Chevy is fine living with cats, and could join a home with another mellow, well socialized dog.  He is not interested in living with a dog who is going to pester him!  He would also be very delighted to be the only dog in the family.

Given Chevy's ongoing health needs our usual adoption fee is waived, and we ask instead for a donation of his adopter's choice.

Intake day -- in need of a groom

Lucy

Lucy
2017-010
July 1, 2017: I was adopted!

Quick Adoption Overview
DOB September 24, 2008 - 8 years old
Gets along with well mannered dogs
Located in Toronto
Fenced yard required

Before applying to adopt a dog or emailing us with questions, please read the dog's entire bio and review our FAQ page.  Emails asking questions that are answered on that page will not be responded to.

Lucy is a sweet and sensitive gal who has loads of love to give.  She is gentle and well behaved, knows her basic commands, has great house manners and is a quiet, easy going gal.  She is a social butterfly who loves to stop and say help to everyone she meets, a real sweetheart!

She came to us when her loving owner had changes in his life that made it impossible for Lucy to stay with him.  She is a loving Newf who has known only kindness in her life and she is looking for a nice, quiet family to call her own.
Lucy is spayed and current on vaccines.  She gets along well despite having an old knee injury that was not repaired.  Maintaining a healthy body weight and taking joint supplements really helps her along nicely.

She is not a fan of slippery flooring surfaces and can be a bit nervous walking in new places, but overall she has good mobility and thoroughly enjoys going for a stroll around the neighbourhood!

This lovable girl would be a great companion for a family looking for a lower energy companion to spend their days with.

Lucy is being fostered in Toronto; her approved adopters will be required to pick her up in person.
