All about Rhue

This sweet girl is a friendly and affectionate Newf x Pyr cross who is pretty as can be!  Rhue has nice house manners, knows some basic commands and is a gentle girl.

She came to our program when her owner moved into an apartment building that was not a suitable environment for her.  She has settled into her foster home nicely and is doing well with the adjustment.

Rhue has previously lived with other dogs with no issues.  She met the dogs in her foster home without incident and has been fine going out walking with them, etc.  She is showing some anxiety when the dogs approach her space when indoors, this is likley partially due to her experiencing pain (see below).  She would likely be happiest in a home without other dogs

Rhue has been spayed and is current on vaccines. Bloodwork was great.

She is morbidly obese and as a result, her mobility is not very good.  Coupled with bilateral knee injuries that were left untreated, Rhue has been living with chronic pain for some time.  She has been compensating by shifting her weight to her front end, wearing on her shoulders.

Xrays show that her hips are not too bad, and she is not showing severe degeneration at all.  Very good news!  Her knees show significant degenerative joint disease as a result of not being repaired when she suffered injuries, and as a result, she will always require pain medication to keep her comfortable.

A combination of pain, anti-inflammatory medication and supplements have been started and are making a difference for this sweet girl.  She has more energy, is much happier and is able to move around much better.  She is still in need of extensive weight loss.

We will be going ahead with TPLO surgery to both of her knees to provide stability and relief from pain. She will have several months of rehab ahead of her.  If a potential adopter comes along who would like to foster-to-adopt throughout her rehabilitation, we would be open to discussing that option.
