Newf Friends Newfoundland Dog Rescue is a volunteer run, foster home based rescue group for Newfoundland Dogs in need in Ontario, Canada. We place Newfs into carefully screened homes in Ontario and surrounding provinces and states. Established in 2008.
It has been a year since Cash walked in my door and became a "foster
failure". I have not regretted one minute of having him in my life.
He and Calder (my 3 yr old yellow lab) constantly amuse and delight
all they meet. Cash has a gentle spirit but also seems to have an
acute sense of humour. I'm not sure how he manages to smile and roll
his eyes at the same time when he thinks I'm being too silly. He can
be an elderly statesman one minute, and then in the next a carefree
clown.
He has taught me a great deal...not to stress the small stuff (like
giant clumps of black fur), and that this gentle giant of a dog has
the capabilty of expanding one's heart. He has left a very big
footprint in my life.
Bravo to Newf Rescue. Thank-you for all you do.....

Riley is super friendly and loves to be around people! He's a happy, goofy, playful boy who is looking for an active family to call his own.
Please note: We are only considering homes with a securely fenced yard for Riley. Invisible fencing does not qualify.
We are also only considering homes where he will have another dog to play with - he is a very playful boy and spends hours of time romping with his current housemates.

Born March 1, 2014 Riley is just a pup at 1 year of age. He is a Great Pyrenees/Bernese Mountain Dog/Newf mix and is cute as ever!
Riley is friendly and social, enjoys attention and is eager to please. He responds well to clear direction from a confident handler. Like a typical young male, he can be a bit stubborn at times, but with kind and clear expectations laid out he has quickly learned what is expected of him. He is very eager to please, has excellent leash manners and house manners....well, except for occasionally counter surfing!
Riley has started attending obedience classes and has proven himself to have excellent focus -- he's a great candidate for someone who is interested in doing obedience and working dog activities. The mental and physical stimulation needed for this type of work is exactly what Riley needs.
Riley has done very well meeting and playing with many new dogs since he arrived in foster care. He has been out to busy events with crowd of dogs and did a fantastic job.
He loves to play with other dogs and will be happiest in a home with another playful dog. Riley is an enthusiastic boy who plays hard so is best suited to a playmate of comparable size, and who is very well
mannered around other dogs.
Due to his breed mixture Riley is not suitable for being off lead in an unsecured area -- for this reason we are only
considering applications where there is a securely fenced yard for him
to play in off lead. His foster mom has started assessing him at dog parks and he is doing very well greeting new dogs and playing. Again, a fenced dog park is necessary since his off lead recall is still a work in progress (he suffers from selective
hearing!)
He is best suited to an adoptive family that is experienced with giant breed dogs, and who are interested in pursing training activities with him to harness his energy and keep him mentally stimulated. He is not a suitable dog for first time dog owners or people who are not well versed in the training and care of giant breed dogs. Because he is a young, boisterous boy, homes with young children are not a suitable match for him.
Riley has been vet checked, is UTD on vaccines and has been neutered.
To be considered for adopting Riley please complete our adoption application and email it back to us. Riley is being fostered in the Guelph area and his approved adopters will be required to pick him up in person. We will consider homes within a one day drive of his location, including
parts of Ontario, Quebec, and neighbouring States including NY, PA, NJ,
VT, OH and more. Riley is a mixed breed dog, an adoption donation of $400 applies.

She is the type of dog that you can’t help but love

have moved to Innisfil I have bought my own horse, Daphne loves him and
gives him kisses whenever she can…………LOL
Hi - I saw all of the adopter updates on the Newf Friends Facebook page
and I just wanted to send you a quick update and a recent photo of Barney in his favourite pose. Doesn't he looked relaxed?
We are so fortunate to have found Barney (and Erica). Barney became a part
of our family instantly and is so loved by all of us. We hope that we
give him what he needs because he gives to us each and every day in his
own special Newf way.

Barney decided that this mattress was adequate cushioning for the back of the car. He napped there for a couple of hours.
Dulcie
has made herself at home and everyone just loves her!! The vet, the
mailman, the neighbours....it was just meant to be :) this Christmas we
are counting our blessings we were the lucky ones to adopt her!!! Wishing you all the best and a very merry Christmas.
Marshmallow is doing so great! We love her so much and
she brings so much love to our family!! She now walk and runs as if she
was a puppy. she has charmed all the neighbours , they wave to
her....should I teach her to wave back? Anyways here is a picture of
her on her couch after a long day.
Just a small update on Bennie, it has been a year now since adopting Bennie and he has been a dream to have. Stressfull at the start but with a little advise from Tami and Kaliee things changed for the better right away. We could not imagine life without Bennie now.
He was scared of anything at the start, if we picked up a shovel to clear the walkway or a broom to sweep he was running away scared, now well he won't even wake up! All his fears are gone, it took 6 months or so but is now just loving running around with his buddy through the bush at the back of our property.
He has brought joy to both of us and a play buddy for Reggie. In town on our walks he now loves to greet people and get as much attention as possible. Bennie is also extemely gentle but is also the boss when it comes to Reggie.

Finn
is now six and half. He has gone from a happy, clumsy, young dog; when
we took him home over four and half years ago to a happy mature
gentlemen, who still has moments of pure silliness. We continue to
travel east with Shannon and Finn each year. They have become old hats
at meeting tourists along the way. We stop in Quebec and Saint Andrews
by the Sea in New Brunswick before landing at our destination in
Lunenburg Nova Scotia. They have learned to sit for photos for
travellers from all over the world who all say what well behaved and
beautiful dogs they are. One heartwarming story was from a young girl
in her wheelchair. Her parents asked if they could have a photo taken
with them. I said I would be happy to take the photo so all they family
could be taken together. Just as I snapped the shot Shannon leaned up
and gave her a gentle kiss and Finn put his head on her lap. The mother
cried and so did I. Other times they are just silly. When we had
their photo taken at the Easter Fund Raising in Pickering Finn thought
the giant Easter Bunny was one big fluffy toy. We took them to Pet
Store for a Christmas photo, Finn thought himself a rock star and wanted
to be photographed with all the toys on hand.
We
continue to walk to the beach each day. Finn runs into the water
regardless of the weather and Shannon wades until he comes back on
shore. Then they run along together. Shannon s Wobblers seems to
be progressing slowly and she is responding well to medication., Finn
seems to know she can no longer engage in wrestling matches and when she
tries to tease him into one he lays down and just moves his head around
her. What a boy!!!

Yesterday was River's birthday - here's how she celebrated:
Happy 7th Birthday to my sweetheart supreme RIVER! I'll be spending the
day with my girl, spoiling her with all her favorite things: pancakes
and scrambled eggs for breakfast, nap, walk in the woods, followed by a
brushing and full body massage, another nap. Salmon birthday cake will
be ready for tonight. Love you River!
