All about Mason
This sweet boy is a a typical adolescent puppy…big and goofy! He is friendly and affectionate, sometimes forgets to turn his brain on, and is generally a sweet fella' who likes to have fun!
Mason needs lots of mental stimulation and long walks to keep him calm and relaxed; after this he is super chilled-out and happy to hang out/nap. Typical of a young Newf, Mason will show shoe-stealing, mouthing, general puppy trouble-making antics when he’s ready for the next round of activities. As the saying goes, a well exercised dog is a well behaved dog!
He is fast learner and will obey commands readily as long as he is not
distracted. He appears to be treat motivated and his foster parents are working on his
listening skills while distracted (ie. getting him to sit when he sees
other dogs instead of leaning into his leash and pulling).
Basic “come, sit, lie down, stay” commands seem to be pretty good, again as long as he is not distracted. On leash he pulls really hard but mellows into the walk so this needs to be worked on. He also pulls and jumps when meeting people which will be addressed in foster care.

His foster parents have been working on his “watching” skills at the end
of their walks. Mason seems to like sitting in the busy park watching
people, dogs,
activities. He does and not seem to get overly excited even when
tempting squirrels cross his path. What a good boy!
Mason likes to romp and play with other well socialized dogs, so he would be happy to join a family with another canine companion who already has solid training in place. Playing with other dogs is great for him to learn appropriate bite inhibition as he is still a bit mouthy.
He loves meeting kids but his enthusiasm can be a bit much. He is jumpy, can be mouthy and generally excitable. Once he has his commands locked down he'll be fine with older, dog savvy kids.
Mason is being fostered in Toronto, ON; his approved adopters will be
required to pick him up in person. An adoption donation of $500 will
apply, plus a refundable $250 neuter-security deposit which will be
reimbursed once he is neutered at the appropriate age (24 months of age
for a giant breed male) as per our spay/neuter contract.
