This friendly and affectionate fella is sweet as can be and looking for a very special family to call his own. Triton knows basic commands and is well mannered in the house, gets along nicely with other dogs, and is a very sweet boy. He is also good with cats -- way to go Triton!
He has a very silly side to him and is playful and fun loving. He likes to go for walks, enjoys swimming, and has recently taken up camping and paddle boarding! Always up for an adventure, Triton is eager to get out and have fun with his family.
Triton arrived in our care with a long history of recurring vomiting, with no diagnosis confirmed. Upon intake into our program, he was taken to the vet for diagnostics and our suspicions were confirmed -- Triton has a condition called megaesophagus (ME). This is a condition that will require lifelong management, necessitating that he sits in an upright position while eating and for a period of time after eating to ensure that his food travels to his stomach. To learn more about ME visit this link.
We have run further testing and have ruled out Myasthenia Gravis as the underlying cause, so that is very good news!
We have come up with a feeding and water regimen that is working wonders for him. Hooray for his awesome foster family, they have made great progress with Triton! He is feeling great now, is full of beans and playful, enjoying life and thriving!
We are looking for a very special adopter to open their hearts to this boy and give him the care he needs. This adopter will be someone who has the time to give a little extra TLC to Triton, and who is committed to following his feeding protocols to ensure that he is able to hold his food down and remain healthy. His routine to keep him healthy takes about 20 minutes twice a day.
Triton is a Newf who will need to be with his family much of the time, as he requires supervision with ALL food and water intake and should not have free access to either. Because extra care needs to be taken to ensure that food and water pass through his esophagus to his stomach, he is not a good candidate for doggie daycare or a home with numerous dogs where there is free access to water bowls, etc. Triton eats sitting in a special chair modified just for him, and this ensures that he stays in an upright position to allow his food to move to his stomach. His foster family will provide full training to his adopters, and his chair will go with him.

We're sending out a huge thank you to Iron Will Raw for generously sponsoring Triton while he is in foster care by providing their raw food for him. Quality raw food brings great benefits for Triton by decreasing his water intake needs with natural moisture, boosting his immune system, as well as other health benefits from a species appropriate diet. Thanks to Domestic Carnivore in Dundas for making this sponsorship possible.
