All about Maia

Sweet Maia is a gentle, mellow gal who found herself in our care through no fault of her own. She has nice manners, is friendly and affectionate, and doesn't have a mean bone in her body.

This cutie gets along nicely with other dogs and once ready for adoption could happily join a home with another four-footed pal.  She is also good with cats.  Such a great gal she is!

Maia arrived in our care in significant pain due to an untreated knee injury.  We had planned to have bilateral TPLO surgery done, but this was delayed due to chronic skin issues.  These skin issues have now resolved, however, she was having serious issues with her liver values.

We ran extensive diagnostics on Maia's liver and are currently working with specialists to get her condition under control so she can have an excellent quality of life.  After much worry and a lot of hard work on the part of her foster family and veterinary team, her liver values have improved tremendously!   With continued treatment, we feel optimistic that she will be able to lead a normal life.  We will recheck her values in April and make further decisions at that time.

Her knee pain seems to have improved with weight loss, so that is promising given that we may not be able to perform the surgery due to her compromised liver function. We are looking at alternative therapies and will come up with a plan that will have the greatest benefit and least risks for Maia.

Updates to come.
