Goji

Goji
2013-030

January 10, 2014: Goji has been adopted!

Say hello to Goji, a big, handsome fella' who just arrived at Newf Friends on December 21st.   What a sweet boy he is!

Goji is well mannered, gets along with other dogs, and cats and is an all around lovely boy who is friendly and affectionate.  He's a real catch!

Goji is 3 years old and is a tall boy who tips the scales at 180lbs.  He could stand to drop 5-10 lbs to reach his perfect weight.  He has been neutered and vaccinated.

I'm a big cuddly boy and I LOOOOVE doggie beds.  This XL bed from LL Bean is just barley big enough for me!

His owner noted that he had recurring hot spots, and on intake Goji was taken to a groomer to remove matts and get air onto his sores.  He will be seeing the vet at the first available appointment to get meds to clear his infections up.
With healthy grain free food, grooming and vet treatment we expect his sores to heal quickly and Goji to feel so much better soon.

To be considered for adopting Goji please complete an adoption application and return it to us.  Goji is being fostered in Mississauga and his approved adopters will be required to pick him up in person.  An adoption donation of $500 applies.

Glenn

Glenn
2013-029

Dec 21:  Glenn has been adopted!!

Meet Glenn, a gentle and affectionate boy who just arrived in our care and is getting settled into his foster home.  This adorable 5 year old is sweet as can be and looking for loving!

Glenn gets along well with other dogs and would be happiest in a home where he has the company of another four footed playmate.

He is learning some basic commands, and working on his leash manners.  Despite having never lived indoors, Glenn is adjusting well and making great progress with housebreaking.

A sensitive boy, he is best suited to a home where someone will be around most of the time.

Born 9/28/08 he is in good health, has been vaccinated and will be neutered on Dec 10 then will be ready to join an adoptive family.

To be considered for adopting Glenn, please complete our adoption application and email it back to us.  He is being fostered in the Paris, ON area and his approved adopters will be required to pick him up in person. An adoption donation of $500 applies.

Gwen

Gwen
2013-028

December 27, 2013: Gwen was adopted.

Say hello to Gwen, a pretty 5 year old Landseer. She entered our program on November 30, 2013 and is currently settling into her foster home.

Never having lived inside before she is understandably taking a bit adjusting to life indoors. Her housetraining is coming along nicely and she's learning that dog beds are comfy to lay on. She has been fantastic with the other dogs at her foster home and friendly with all people. She loves to rest her head on your lap for attention. So sweet!! She is not too hot with the kitties though so a cat free home would be best for Gwen. Heavily matted on intake, some areas of her coat needed to be clipped down but after a trip to the groomer for a bath and tidy Gwen is looking (and smelling!) wonderful. She's quite a good looking girl!

Here's a video of her playing with a few of the resident dogs at her foster home. She definitely gets along well with other dogs! Sometimes she will bark at another dog to get them to play with her but she's never shown any signs of aggression or poor behaviour. She is in foster care with 6 other dogs ranging in size from tiny to giant and has no issues so she's quite well suited to a multi-dog household.

In the house Gwen is pretty low key and spends most of her time napping by your feet. She has no problem sharing her food, toys or bones with people but will bark at another dog if they stick their head in her food dish. Can you blame her??

Going for car rides with Gwen is something of an adventure. Firstly getting her in the car is a pretty big undertaking. She drops to the ground and refused to move so you have to boost her in; first the front end and then the back. We swear she weighs 200 lbs with how heavy she feels!! Her foster Mom has noticed a slight improvement as she's been taking her lots of places to expose her to the car so she just needs continued practice on getting in a vehicle. She hadn't been in one since she was a pup!

Winter-time fun video below!

Obedience-wise Gwen is pretty good. She knows all her basic commands (sit, down, wait, etc) but her leash skills need some work as she's never been walked on leash before. She pulls, especially to go and greet other dogs. She's just so darn friendly! Grooming Gwen is a pleasure as she just lays there and lets you brush her for as long as you like, making her coat a snap to upkeep.

At nighttime if Gwen is not in the same room as her "peeps", she will bark and howl. She is getting better at being left alone but her new family should be prepared for some clinginess while she transitions to her new home. She is not destructive when left alone, just vocal. Good thing because she hates being crated and will bust out of one every time she's put in. Silly girl!!

Her birthday is December 19, 2008 so she's almost 5 years old. She is now up to date with her vaccines and spayed. She weighs 116 lbs and is in great health.

Update December 19, 2013:
Gwen had to be rushed to the vet this week when she suddenly began bleeding heavily from her vagina. The vet recommended emergency surgery as the bleeding was continuing and her gums were gray. He discovered she had internal bleeding from where her uterus was tied off during spay surgery the week before. Her blood was not clotting properly so the uterine stump did not heal correctly, causing it to break off which allowed blood to leak out, pool in her abdomen and seep out of her. The surgery was completed and Gwen went home to recover.

Her recovery has been thankfully uneventful and she is eating, drinking and going for leashed, short walks. She is on medications to combat any infection and also aid with her blood's ability to clot. When Gwen came to us she also had unhealed lacerations on her ear that did not heal properly; they were repaired during her spay surgery and are now looking great. The fact that the lacerations did not heal supports the vet's diagnosis that her blood does not clot normally. Please send your good thoughts to Gwen as she recovers and waits to join her approved home once she's 100% healthy.

Your support is greatly appreciated to help us cover the cost of Gwen's surgery and medications. Her vet bills to date are $1600. Donations can be made online through our website, or you can shop at our online store and 100% of the proceeds will come to Newf Friends! You can find links to our store and to our donation page on this website.
