All about Mosely

As sweet as he is handsome, lovable Mosely arrived in our care on Dec 2 and is settling in nicely at his foster home.

This well-mannered boy is a real gem -- gentle, friendly, and all-around a wonderful Newf. He is great around children, enjoys the company of other dogs, and is fine with cats.  What a good boy!

Mosely has been very well-loved his entire life, and it shows.  He came to us when changes in his owner's life necessitated that they move across the globe, and they knew the quarantine and move would be too hard on their beloved Newf.  Thinking of what was best for Mosely, they made the decision to trust us with his care to find him the perfect family.

We are currently reviewing our waiting list to look for the very best match for this wonderful boy.

To be considered for adopting a dog through Newf Friends please submit a completed application, which can be found on the CONTACT US/FORMS page. All about

Sweet gal Elspeth arrived in our care on Nov 24/19 and is making herself at home in foster care.

She is a sweet and sensitive gal who knows some basic commands and has nice house manners.  She gets along with other dogs, but prefers the company of dogs who are mellow like she is.  She likes to be the "fun police" when hooligan dogs are being too rowdy.  LOL

She will be undergoing spay surgery next week, then will be ready for adoption once healed.

To be considered for adopting a dog through Newf Friends please submit a completed application, which can be found on the CONTACT US/FORMS page. ISIDORE
2019-010

I was adopted!

Quick Adoption Overview
DOB Feb 2, 2017
Located in Woodstock, ON
Fenced yard required

Before applying to adopt a dog or emailing us with questions, please read the dog's entire bio and review our FAQ page.  Emails asking questions that are answered on that page will not be responded to.

All about Isidore

This sweet boy arrived in foster care on Sept 30 and is getting himself settled.   He is a smart boy who knows several commands and is very eager to learn.

We are told he gets along well with other dogs and enjoys their company.

He is living with a cat in his foster home and is doing well.  Good boy!

A typical young, goofy boy, he is in need of more socialization and training to improve his leash manners and greetings.  He is very motivated to please and is responding marvellously to a Nothing-In-Life-Is-Free regimen.  A family who has the time and energy to work with Isidore to help him reach his full potential will be the best fit for him.

He can be nervous around kids, so is best suited to a home without children under the age of 14.

Isidore is neutered and current on vaccines.

More info will be posted as we get to know him.

All about Captain
Cutie-pie Captain arrived in our program on Sept 14 and is getting settled into his foster home.

This sweet pup came to us through no fault of his own, when his owner had an accident resulting in serious injuries that made caring for Captain impossible.

Captain has great house manners, gets along well with other dogs, and is an all-around fabulous boy.

Posing with his foster sister and wrestling buddy

He will be happiest in a home where he will have another four-footed playmate to romp around and wrestle with.  We are not considering homes that do not have a well-socialized pal for him.

He's a bit of a hooligan, so a playmate who enjoys a good play session is a must.  He is not a fit for older dogs who want peace and quiet!

A typical young male newf, he has oodles of energy and will thrive in the care of a family who have the time and energy to properly exercise and train him.  A home where he will be left alone for long hours every day is not ideal for him.

He has been neutered and his vaccines are up to date.

All about Nikita
Nikita arrived in our care on August 8 and has settled into her foster home nicely. A typical "velcro" Newf, she loves to spend time with her foster family.  If you're looking for a sweet gal to be your constant companion and hang out at your side, Nikita is the girl for you!

She came to us through no fault of her own when her owner was not able to meet Nikita's needs.  Nikita is a total doll, she is gentle, well mannered, and sweet as can be!  Her house manners are excellent.  She loooooves to snuggle and is happiest curled up on the couch being petted and adored.  What a great catch!  She would be so very happy to join a family where someone is home most of the time.

She is a creature of habit and likes to keep her foster family on schedule letting everyone know when it is time for a walk, time for meals, etc.  She also loves to "help" in the kitchen when her foster mom is cooking.  If you're in need of a sous-chef, Nikita is up to the task!

Nikita gets along well with other dogs and loves to romp and play with the other pooches in her foster home.  After a fun play session, she can often be found curled up for a snuggle with her playmates.  Awwww.  Nikita would be very happy to join a family with another gentle and friendly dog.

Nikita arrived in our care with some skin infections due to flea-bite dermatitis, but that has all been cleared up and she is doing very well now.  She has now been spayed, and her vaccines are up to date.

Nikita has some arthritis and her back end can be sore.  We have started her on pain meds and this has made a huge difference for her.  Some pain meds and joint supplements will be needed throughout her life.

Nikita is ready to join her perfect forever home -- applications are now being accepted.
Nikita is a senior, so a reduced adoption donation of $350 applies.

Gander

Gander
2019-007

I was adopted on January 5, 2020

Quick Adoption Overview
DOB  November 22, 2017
Located in the GTA
Could join home with mellow female dog
Children over 14 yrs
Fenced yard required
Before applying to adopt a dog or emailing us with questions, please read the dog's entire bio and review our FAQ page.  Emails asking questions that are answered on that page will not be responded to.

All about Gander
Sweet fella' Gander is a young, goofy boy who is full of puppy energy and eager to learn.  He is a delight to be around and is ready to find himself a loving family to call his own.

Rolling around with his toy

He's friendly, loves attention, and to romp around and play.  He is a typical young male who is in need of training and socialization.  Having lived his life in a rural environment he needs to learn about life in a more urban area.  Gander will benefit from opportunities for obedience training and socialization to build his confidence.

Gander has been attending classes and in the hands of an experienced handler,  is proving to be an excellent student, quickly learning new commands and what is expected of him, and behaving very well around other dogs in this environment. Way to go Gander!  A family who will continue on with his obedience work and socialization will be best for him.

Smart and eager to please, Gander would do well with an owner who is interested in working their dog in obedience, water work, draft work, scent detection and more.  He is a real "thinker" and "problem solver", a very intelligent boy!

He is very people-focused and enjoys spending time with his family.  He can be somewhat anxious when separated from his family, so would be happiest in a home where someone is around much of the time so he is not spending long days alone.  Owners who are willing to continue working with Gander to increase his independence will be a good fit for him.

Gander previously lived with other dogs but had some resource guarding issues with one of them, and the decision was made to rehome him. This guarding was behaviour was limited to one dog, and was not noted with people.

He has enjoyed the company of a female playmate who would visit him at his foster home but is not reliable around males.  He is best suited to a home where he would be the only dog, or where he would have a mellow female companion.

He has been vaccinated and has now been neutered and is ready to be adopted.

Applications are now being accepted.

Mobi

Mobi
2019-008

Update November 8/19:  RIP sweet girl.  Mobi left us surrounded by her loving foster family.
______________
Mobi is in our sanctuary care program.  She will be living out her days in a foster home where she will get lots of tender love and care.

Donations towards her care are greatly appreciated.

DOB April 14, 2007
Located in the GTA

Sweet gal Mobi arrived in our care after her owner passed away.  She is a total love bug who enjoys a good snuggle.

On intake, Mobi was in pretty rough shape suffering from severe mobility issues and morbid obesity, and with a heavily matted coat which had to be completely shaved off.  With some basic vet care, we were able to identify that her thyroid was not functioning properly so we have started thyroid meds to help her feel better and drop weight, and have successfully treated her for a UTI infection that was causing incontinence.  We have also begun a comprehensive pain management regimen that has made a tremendous difference for her and enabled her to move around much better.

Due to Mobi's advanced age and serious health issues, we have determined that she is not a candidate for adoption. Instead, she will remain in our foster program in our sanctuary care program.  Our priorities will be to ensure that she is pain-free and is able to enjoy a good quality of life in a loving foster home for her remaining time.

Donations to help offset the ongoing care of Mobi are appreciated.  Details for making a donation can be found by clicking here.

Roxanne (Roxy)

ROXANNE (Roxy)
2019-005
ADOPTED July 6/19

Quick Adoption Overview
DOB August 1, 2011
Located in Thornhill, ON
Fenced yard required
Before applying to adopt a dog or emailing us with questions, please read the dog's entire bio and review our FAQ page.  Emails asking questions that are answered on that page will not be responded to.

All about Roxy
Friendly and full of personality, adorable gal Roxy LOVES to be the centre of attention and be petted and adored.   She is clearly used to getting loads of love showered on her.

This sweet girl has known much love in her life, coming to us from an owner who adored her.  When her owner's health needs made it impossible to properly care for Roxy he made the difficult decision to turn her over to us to find her a home where she will get all of the love and care she needs.

Roxy has never lived with cats, although seemed totally uninterested in them when she stopped for an overnight stay at a volunteer's house during her transport.

She previously lived with a male dog and is currently sharing her foster home with another male Newf.  She can be nervous and unsure of how to act around new dogs.  She will likely be happiest in a home where she is the only dog.  She would be fine hanging out with other dogs for walks.

Roxy is a silly girl who loves to go for car rides -- the various volunteers who helped transport her quickly discovered that she thinks she should be allowed to ride shotgun!  Here she is trying to claim the front seat in 3 different cars!  Nice try Roxy!

Roxy is a large gal who is in need of some serious weight loss.  On intake, she was about 40-50 lbs overweight at 160 lbs--yikes!  Her bloodwork results show no issues, so we have begun a weight loss program and the pounds are melting off.  So far she has dropped 25 pounds!!!!! Way to go Roxy!

Roxy has great leash manners, which is good news since she needs lots of exercise!  She loves going for her daily walks, so an owner who likes to get out and walk a well-mannered Newf will be the perfect match for her.

She can be a little pushy at times--it's clear she is used to getting her own way. She has learned her manners well at her foster home.   She was a bit stressed with all of the changes in her life but is making great progress.  A calm, quiet household will work wonders for her.

She will benefit greatly from activities that will help boost her confidence and independence so that she is better able to cope with new situations. With an owner who sets reasonable boundaries and expectations, she will thrive. She just needs some extra work to help her blossom.

Roxy is a gentle girl, who is sweet and sensitive.  She is unsure around children , shying away and prefers to avoid them, so a home without young kids is best for her. A calm, quiet, relaxed home will be her best match.
