Adopter Update: Bella

Hello: Newf Friends

Just a short note on Bella. She has settled in very nicely. She loves walks and playing with other dogs in the neighborhood.

She could do with a little filling out. She's eating very well, so we'll give her some time. It's great to see her fit in so easily into our family; everyone just falls for her.

Shedding season

A fun email from Bear's adoptive family:

Oh the fun you can have when your Newf is shedding........
It is shedding season and we have found many ways to entertain ourselves.

Update April 15, 2011

If ever there was a time to step up and support Newf Rescue, it is now. With a large number of dogs in our care our resources are rapidly being depleted. Today with have 3 Newfs undergoing surgery and donations are needed to help us cover the costs.

Rocky Rock Star now known as Geordie is one of the three dogs having surgery today. Rocky is having his knee repaired for a full tear of his cruciate ligament. The orthopedic specialist who is doing the surgery says it is extremely rare to see such an injury in a young pup. He has advised us that Geordie's other knee is also problematic and that it is likely to blow also in the future. Geordie also has hips that are not great -- all of this is genetic and the result of careless breeding.
Lucky for Geordie, the family who was set to adopt him prior to the discovery of his cruciate injury are still committed to adopting him and are "fostering to adopt" him and are prepared to get him through the lengthy recovery period after this surgery. Details about this adorable pup can be found here

Beautiful Jade is also in surgery today, having TPLO done on her torn cruciate ligament. She will be recovering in a loving foster home before being available to join an adoptive family.
Jade is a total love bug, gets along with everyone and is cute as a button.
Details about Jade can be read here.

Also having surgery today is Mackenzie. This sweet girl had previously had cherry eye surgery but after a month it failed and the cherry eye popped back out. This was something we had anticipated given how extensive the damage was to her eye after her previous owners had left the condition untreated for so many years. Her cherry eye popped back out the day before she was to be adopted. Poor Macaroni! We are having the eye repaired again and have our fingers and paws crossed that the surgery is successful.

Handsome boy Ace is finally feeling better and is just about ready to join an adoptive family. His health issues are under control and he is doing well in foster care. Is he the Newf you have been dreaming of? Learn more about this sweet boy here

Lovely Penelope is still looking for her forever family. She is making tons of progress in her foster home and is blossoming into a wonderful girl. Your perfect family is out there Penelope, and we'll find them!
Read her bio here

Handsome boy Larry is recovering from neuter surgery and is under assessment in foster care. He is a friendly fella who is looking for a special family to call his own.
This sweet boy's bio can be found here

Molly
has found herself a wonderful home! We are so happy for you Molly!

Maggie has also found a wonderful home! Way to go sweet girl!

Harley has also been adopted by a great family. Way to go sweet boy!

New arrival Yogi is currently under assessment. He has been moved into care with a behaviourist and is doing very well.

Molly Found her Forever Home

Lucky gal Molly was adopted by a wonderful family in Toronto. We expect nothing but glowing updates and fun-filled pictures from her new parents. When Molly entered our rescue program she was filthy and had gum stuck in her ears and coat (read our guidelines for kids and dogs living together safely). A huge thanks goes to Molly's foster family who cleaned her up and showered her with love for the 2 months that Molly enriched their lives.

Adopter Update: Bear Has a New Job

Every day after we've had our morning walk we wait for the bus with Kieffer. He is becoming very used to this routine and will head back to the house as soon as Kieffer is on the bus.

Bear is still improving in leaps and bounds. His coat is looking better everyday and he no longer hesitates at all when approaching stairs. He is doing so well that we have been able to reduce his Metacam a little bit. His 4 walks a day and Acana Pacifica food (as well as the Glucosamine I add to his supper each day) are really doing the trick. On sunday we went for a long walk and he even ran a little bit.

We are so proud of the improvements in his health. He is also so much calmer in the house now. He has really settled in. He has his favourite spots one being right in front of the fridge. I think he's trying to help me on my diet. He is still my shadow and will follow me everywhere.

He has also started making a few friends around the neighbourhood. He has become friends with the little Boston Terrier across the street and a mix dog around the corner. If he could he would play with them all. When he meets up with them you can see he's just a big pup.

We absolutely love our Bear. He has brought a lot to our family.
